Our men’s velvet slippers are made to order, one pair at a time, in the colours and details you choose. Start from one of our designs, from plain black velvet for black tie to embroidered motifs from cigars and cocktails to classic cars. Then make it yours with your initials, lining, trim and sole colour.
Velvet slippers, made for you
The Mark Slipper is our men’s smoking slipper. It is cut in rich velvet in black, navy blue, burgundy, green or brown, finished with a grosgrain trim and a leather lining. For black tie, the Pure Slipper in black velvet goes with almost everything, and the Morton Slipper offers formal styles for evening wear. Each pair is made individually for you, so no two are quite the same.

Choose every detail
- Velvet colour: black, navy blue, burgundy, green or brown
- Embroidery: our motifs, or plain velvet for a quieter look
- Your initials: embroidered on the side and embossed on the sole
- Trim, lining and sole colour: match your dinner jacket, or add a flash of colour on a hand painted leather sole
For black tie and evening wear
Plain black velvet is the classic choice with a dinner suit. For patent leather and the most formal evenings, see our opera pumps for men.
Why choose velvet slippers?
Velvet has a soft, deep pile that catches the light, so a velvet slipper looks rich in the evening and feels soft underfoot. Our men’s velvet slippers are lined in leather and finished with a grosgrain trim, which gives them structure and helps them keep their shape. Unlike a mass produced slipper, every pair is cut and stitched to order, so the colour, lining and sole are exactly as you choose them.
A short history of the velvet slipper
The velvet slipper began in 19th century England as an indoor shoe for gentlemen, worn with a smoking jacket in the evening. That is why it is still often called a smoking slipper or an Albert slipper, after Prince Albert. Embroidered motifs and crests became part of the tradition, and today the velvet slipper is worn well beyond the drawing room: at black tie dinners, at weddings and with smart casual tailoring.
How to wear men’s velvet slippers
- Black tie: plain black velvet with a dinner suit, the classic alternative to patent shoes. See the black tie dress code for the full rules.
- Evenings and parties: a coloured velvet or an embroidered motif with a velvet, tweed or navy jacket.
- Smart casual: with chinos or tailored trousers, with or without socks.
- At home: the slipper’s original purpose, now made to last.
Finding your size
Our men’s slippers come in two styles, the Mark and the Morton. Measure the length and ball girth of your foot as shown in our Size & Fitting Guide, then choose your size. As every pair is made for you, measuring first is the surest way to a perfect fit.
Caring for your velvet slippers
Brush the velvet gently with a soft brush in the direction of the pile to keep it looking its best. Keep your slippers away from heavy rain, and if they get wet, let them dry naturally away from direct heat. Store them with shoe trees to help them keep their shape.
